Introduction

The College of International Education recruited undergraduate students majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (International Students) in 2007. As of 2021, a total of 140 graduates from 21 countries including Thailand, the United States, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Iraq, Sri Lanka and Central Asian countries have been trained. About one-third of the students go on to study for master's and doctoral degrees in well-known domestic universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and Minzu University of China after graduation. About one-third of students are employed in China.

Curriculum and Objectives

The college offers a total of 27 basic discipline courses, 2 professional basic courses, 11 professional compulsory courses and 2 professional elective courses for students. It aims to train students to master general linguistics and knowledge of Chinese language and literature, knowledge of Chinese culture, knowledge of pedagogy and psychology, basic theoretical knowledge of Chinese language teaching, and teaching methods of Chinese as a second language. To enable students to be a applied and compound international talents who have strong Chinese teaching ability, high teacher quality, and high ability to engage in Chinese language teaching and other related work overseas.

Faculty

The college currently has 28 teachers, including 3 professors, 11 associate professors, and 14 lecturers. 22 have doctoral degrees, accounting for 79% of the total number of teachers. The college currently has 1 candidate for the New Century Excellent Talents Program of the Ministry of Education. In the past five years, a total of more than 20 research projects have been approved, including 3 projects of the National Social Science Fund, 1 project of the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project, and 2 projects of the Ministry of Education's New Century Excellent Talents Support Program. The "International Chinese Teaching Database" is under rapid construction. The Journal of International Communication of Chinese Language, the Research Series of International Communication of Chinese Language and International Chinese Language Teaching, and the Series of Teaching Materials for Postgraduates in International Chinese Language Teaching have been published one after another. Teachers and students publish about 60 academic papers every year, the citations of teachers' achievements are rising rapidly, and the number of citations per year currently ranks among the top 10 Chinese language teaching institutions in China.
